Results: 0-2 Epith./lpf || Greater than 100 WBC's/hpf || Numerous cocci in pairs
Note: This is an example of how easy it is to over-decolorize the gram stain. You can see a "capsule" around the cocci which suggests the organism is Strep pneumoniae. The cocci look gram negative instead of gram positive. Performing a Quellung test would confirm the presence of Strep pneumoniae.
